Japanese Rollercoasters and Regret
Posted: June 9th, 2009 | | No Comments »When I was in the 4th grade I lived overseas in a country that boasted one of the tallest roller coasters in the world. While I was on a field trip to this amusement park with my school class, I let a complete upside loop keep me from enjoying this once in a lifetime experience. I was left with only my teacher, Mrs. Mountford as the entire rest of my class went and rode one of the best rides in the world. (One of the greatest at the time anyways)
Regret is defined as a feeling of disappointment, distress, or to remember with a feeling of loss or sorrow. On the top of my list of regrets is not riding that roller coaster that day. I have tried to make up for it by riding just about every ride since then, but it can’t replace that feeling of sorrow.
This might sound strange, but regret is good. Keep a list of things close to you of the things that you regret in life. Add to it every instance that counts.
The trick is to learn that when you approach similar situations you can use this list of regrets, to balance the risk. I was afraid that I would fall out when the roller coaster got to the top of that flip, but now that I know my entire class made it, I know I won’t fall out. I can handle that risk.
